The courses culminate in an end of course ZOOM party where all past students and friends are welcome. Dr Simon Nelson Phd, MA, BMus
Simon Nelson has been a professional guitarist for 30 years; living and touring all over the world. He has played professionally from the USA from New Orleans to Bermuda and Australia.
Initially self taught, he later felt he ought to “know” something about music, taking a Bachelor of Music degree at Goldsmiths College, a Master of Arts at City University and a Ph.D. in Ethnomusicology at City University. For the latter, he wrote a thesis on the origins and evolution of blues guitar.
As a session musician Simon has recorded for the ABC in Australia, and the BBC in the UK. He has played in a touring band at Birmingham, Manchester, Sheffield, Belfast and Newcastle Arenas, the O2 and the Albert Hall with artists from Joss Stone, to Beverley Knight; Paul Jones (Manfred Mann), to Tony Hadley and Jocelyn Brown. He’s part of Elizabeth McGovern’s Sadie and The Hotheads, touring globally and currently preparing for Anne Cusack and Elizabeth’s autumn 26 production, ‘What We Know Now’, W4.
In a worship context Simon has played in band with various worship leaders from Dave Bilbrough to Nick Herbert and Andy Piercy and is currently working on his summer course while developing his next 10 Week Worship Course starting 5th October 26 - brand new courses; and book launch Autumn 26 and new courses out this Autumn.

2 STRANDS:
The Rhythm Worship Guitar Courses
There are 6 levels of worship Rhythm guitar courses. Rhythm guitar means using the guitar to accompany the voice. It deals with chords, rhythm and finger-picking. In a church band this is usually done by the worship leader.
The Lead Guitar Worship Courses
There are currently 5 levels of Lead Guitar, with more being added, which is finding something to play to accompany the rhythm guitarist. It includes power chords, scales, partial chords, playing melody - and can involve improvised solos in various styles too. This is often done by a second guitarist in a worship band, sometimes on electric guitar.
