Advanced 1

The Advanced Worship Guitar Course builds on material examined in previous courses and is for you if you enjoy playing the guitar but would like to improve your skills. It’s for those who have completed the Intermediate Course, or guitarists who already have some grasp of guitar techniques.

Your confidence will grow with the ability to play worship songs in a variety of styles.

The course consolidates material covered in earlier courses and:

  • Triads and 7th chords in the 5 main guitar keys (C, G, D, A E).

  • The funky Bo Diddley rhythm, and a variation on it, are practised.

  • Pedal tones/drones are practised for the keys of G, D, E and C.

  • There is a more in-depth examination of slash chords (D/F#, G/B)

  • We explore triads – major, minor, augmented, diminished, suspended 2nd (sus2) and suspended 4th (sus4)

  • We look at transposition and the significance of the CAGED system and using capos (where, when and how)

  • 7th chords are transformed into various types – Major 7th, dominant 7th minor 7th, minor 7b5, diminished 7th.

  • Finger-picking patterns are examined.

  • We look at playing hymns
  • Technical aspects are put in to practise by playing various songs from the worship repertoire
  • A further 30 worship songs, of greater complexity, are added to the repertoire by worship songwriters like Hillsong, Bethel Music, Jenn Johnson, Chris Tomlin and Matt Redman

Advanced 1 – £170.00 (Early bird only £160.00)

The majority of students on the course are playing for prayer groups and are looking towards getting involved in their church worship band. This course helps this process.
