I always find the worship guitar course end of term party to be a magical and inspiring evening of celebration and worship. Worship guitar students from the all of the current guitar courses play, sing and worship together.

This term we held two parties; one at Holy Trinity Hounslow and the other at Oasis Church in Colliers Wood. Worship guitar students from Holy Trinity Brompton also attended the latter.

The Beginner Guitarists played as a group, including songs by Matt Redman, Martin Smith and Tim Hughes.

The Improver Guitarists played songs by Chris Tomlin, Hillsongs and Paul Baloche.

Advanced guitarists tried some more challenging songs, such as El Shaddai (Amy Grant’s version), which has lots of chords in it!

One of the advanced students played three original songs.

We closed the evening  with a jazzy version of Louis Armstrong’s What a Wonderful World. I was accompanied by one of the guitar students who is really an upright bass player. The song, by Bob Thiele and George Weiss, was written as an antidote to the troubled political climate of the ’60s. They wrote it specifically for Armstrong as they believed he was able to bring people together.

I see skies of blue, clouds of white

The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night

And I think to myself what a wonderful world.
